If a specific page on a website doesn't load for some reason or if a link is not functioning, the website visitor shall see an error page with some generic message. The page shall have nothing in common with the rest of the Internet site, that can make the visitor leave your site. A potential solution in cases like this is a feature offered by some website hosting service providers - the option to set up your own personalized error pages that will have exactly the same design as your Internet site and which could contain any images or text that you'd like based on the particular error. There are 4 well-known errors that may take place and they involve these so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your browser sends a bad request to the hosting server and it cannot be processed; 401, if you're supposed to log in to see a page, but you have not done this yet; 403, if you don't have an authorization to see a particular page; and 404, when a link that you have clicked leads to a file that does not exist. In all of these cases, visitors shall be able to see your custom content rather than a generic error page.
Custom Error Pages in Cloud Website Hosting
You will be able to set up custom error pages for any of your sites with ease when you use any of our cloud website hosting
. This could be done using the Hosted Domains part of the Hepsia Control Panel, provided with all accounts and once you go there, you can set your customized pages independently for any domain or subdomain. You have to upload the files to your account ahead of time and enter the links to them during the process. This function could be de-activated whenever you want and the options you will be able to choose from are a standard page from our system or a default Apache web server page. Custom made error pages can be set with an .htaccess file too. The file should be put in the domain or subdomain folder and it must contain some system code and links to the pages. If you are not tech-savvy, you may copy the whole content you'll need for the file from our Help section.
Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers
All semi-dedicated servers
which we supply support customized error pages and it shall not take more than a couple of mouse clicks in your Hepsia hosting Control Panel to use this functionality. The option is included in the Hosted Domains section of your Control Panel where you'll need to type in the links to the custom-made files via basic drop-down menus and a time and effort saving interface. Keep in mind, you have to upload them inside your account before that. If you don't want to employ this feature at some point, you could deactivate it just as quickly and select an Apache server page or a default page from our system to be displayed when your visitors encounter an error. If you'd prefer, you can also use an .htaccess file to activate the custom made error pages. The file has to include a particular line of code plus a link for every error type and you can discover an example of the entire content for all four error types in our Help section.
